QEL COLUMN

QEL Columns are no longer available on this web site.

We apologise to readers of this web site many of whom we are aware use it to keep abreast of the various bits of information sent out by Tony Lyster, mostly pleading for volunteers to come forward for busy open days.

We know some people avoid getting emails of the QEL type repeatedly harrying them to do more for the Society and use this column as a way to keep things at arms length so to speak.

We believe this has been a useful service both to the members involved and to the benefit of the Society from time to time apart from the other bits of information, sometimes sad, that the QEL publication sends out.

In the absence of any other frequent information members will have to rely upon wispers, rumour and infrequent publications of Quainton News and News from Quainton or sign up to be harried throughout the year.

At our last count it seemed only about 180 members receive QEL and that is out of about 320 shareholder members and goodness only knows how many associate members. The chances are that most of the recipients are already committed volunteers or those who have become too old or disillusioned to make the effort.

Some members are now conjecturing the Society cannot afford to produce or send out the Quainton News at least until the funds are received from the Christmas Thomas events.

This is further amplified by the fact the Executive are attempting to eject a shareholder member by the illegal use of Rule 15 whereas they should use Rule 14 which would cost the postage of calling an Extra Ordinary Meeting. (320 member notices will cost £0.41 each by franked mail equalling £131.20 assuming the weight per mailing is below 100 grams.)

Meanwhile, we would be willing to continue running the QEL publications but the sponsor of this web site has been identified by the Executive for victimisation and although other members of the Concerned Group are willing to pass copies of the QELs it would not be too long before they too would become identified and subject to similar vindictiveness.

We would remind readers that this web site was initially set up to enhance the communication between members after it had been recognised by the Executive Committee of 2014/15 that communication was the number one issue to be tackled based upon recommendations of the Independent Consultant assisting the Committee in making an application for museum accreditation. This policy was largely undermined by the later Acting Chairman and those that resist any change that may disturb their comfortable coterie positions.

We look forward to normal service being resumed in the near future but, meanwhile, you might feel inclined to make your views known to the Chairman although you may risk the same treatment as our group members.
